Tripura: 55-yr-old sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for raping minor girl

A 55-year-old man was convicted by a Tripura court for raping a three year old girl in West Tripura district, police said on Thursday.
A local court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and slapped a fine of ₹50,000 failing which he has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three months.

Police said that the convict allegedly called the minor girl, who was a neighbour, to his house on January 25 in 2024. After she came, he allegedly closed the door and raped her. The minor told her mother about the incident. Later, her mother took her to a primary health centre and then filed a case at the concerned police station.
On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case against him under Section 376(1) of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act and then arrested him. After investigation, police filed chargesheet against him on February 29 in 2024. After the trial, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment.
