Bihar to get 559MW power as NPGC commissions final unit

Bihar will get 559 MW of additional thermal power as the third and final unit, having an installed capacity of 660 MW, of the Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), was commissioned at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district on Sunday, said power officials.

The NPGC unit successfully completed its 72 hours full-load trial run in the wee hours on Sunday. This means that the unit is ready for commercial generation and would add electricity up to 660MW to beneficiary states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Sikkim. With this total generation capacity of NPGC would be raised to 1980 MW from 1320 MW at present with a total expenditure of ₹19,412 crore.

Bihar will get 84.8% share i.e. 559 MW of electricity generated from the power plant, while the remaining would be allocated to Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Sikkim from this unit.

“Bihar’s total power allocation from NPGC will now reach 1,683 MW and its power share from NTPC would increase to 5,921 MW from the present allocation of 5,362 MW,” added Chandan.

Congratulating his team, NTPC regional executive director (east-1) Sital Kumar said his personnel exhibited professional and calibrated efforts, which lead to the successful completion of trials.

“The NTPC, with a total investment of ₹76,246 crore in Bihar, has an installed power generation capacity of 8,410 MW across six projects in the state, while 1,320 MW is under construction,” Kumar said.

NTPC supplies around 80% of the state’s average daily allocation of power from central utilities that is between 5,000 MW to 5,392 MW.
