Crackdown on Illegal autorickshaws in Swargate; 375 cases filed

Officials said such special drives will continue in the future to avoid inconvenience to passengers and maintain traffic discipline

The Pune City Traffic Branch carried out a special drive against illegal passenger autorickshaws in the Swargate area, taking action against drivers for overloading passengers, refusing fares, not wearing uniforms and creating traffic obstruction.

During the drive conducted on March 10, the traffic police took action against 146 autorickshaws, including 111 for carrying excess passengers, 32 for refusing fares and three three faulty vehicles were seized.

In a joint operation by Swargate Traffic Division and Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) on March 12, 186 cases were filed, including 92 for excess passengers, 21 for refusing fares, 48 for not wearing uniforms and 18 for causing traffic obstruction. In addition, seven faulty rickshaws were seized. The Pune RTO also registered 43 cases during the joint operation.
