FDA suspends licences of 12 food establishments in Pune, Sangli; seizes 41.36 lakh stock

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune division, has suspended the licences and registrations of 12 hotels, restaurants and bakeries in Pune and Sangli districts for allegedly violating food safety and hygiene norms, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the officials, the establishments were found violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011. (HT)

Officials conducted inspections between August 1 and 9 as part of the FDA’s “Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra” campaign.

Of the 12 establishments, six are from Pune and six from Sangli. The Pune establishments include The Lotus Resort in Lonavla, Muscle Foodz in Bibwewadi, Huma Bakery in Ganesh Nagar (Pimpri-Chinchwad), New Maharashtra Bakers in Ambegaon Budruk, Marrakesh Ventures Private Limited in Sahakar Nagar and Swinsta Ent Private Limited in Karve Nagar.

According to the officials, the establishments were found violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011.

In a separate action on August 10, FDA officials intercepted a vehicle at Karve Parking in Kondhwa that was allegedly transporting mava sweets without the required food licence and seized 458 kg stock worth 1.44 lakh and collected samples for analysis, officials said.

“FDA will continue to take strict action against establishments that violate food safety norms,” said DV Bhogawade, joint commissioner (Food), FDA, Pune division.
