The Uruli Kanchan police have booked a 39-year-old man for allegedly repeatedly raping a married woman by threatening to kill her husband, officials said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Mahendra Handal (39), is a resident of Handalwadi in Kedgaon village of Daund taluka. According to police, the alleged offences took place between March 14, 2025, and June 30, 2026, at the woman’s residence in Uruli Kanchan and at a lodge near Pune railway station.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that Handal repeatedly sexually assaulted her while threatening to kill her husband if she disclosed the incidents or resisted him.
Based on the complaint, the Uruli Kanchan police registered a first information report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, criminal intimidation and other applicable offences.
Police said the investigation is underway, with statements of the complainant and witnesses being recorded. They are also gathering evidence related to the allegations. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
