The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants have postponed the indefinite protest in Pune for the second time and will now begin on October 2, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The students had earlier planned to hold the agitation on September 27.
Protestors took the decision after meeting Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Friday. According to the students, police cited the deployment of personnel for Ganeshotsav bandobast and requested them to defer the protest. The students will hold the stir at SM Joshi Marg near the Pune Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth.
The police have indicated that permission for the October 2 agitation would be considered.
The stir is being held over a set of pending demands, including the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar over alleged recent paper leak-related controversies.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, who attended the meeting, said the agitation was non-political and focused on students’ concerns. Congress leader and former minister Vishwajeet Kadam have also extended support to the agitation. The students are also seeking a meeting with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
