Lok Sabha elections 2019: Basti constituency in UP will see a close contest between BJP, BSP

The Bharatiya Janata Party had won the Basti Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 1991 and continued to represent it till 1999, when the Bahujan Samaj Party’s candidate wrested it. In 2009, BSP was successful again but the BJP won in the next Lok Sabha election.

The Basti Lok Sabha seat, which has the assembly constituencies of Harraiya, Kaptanganj, Rudhauli, Basti Sadar and Mahadewa, is dominated by the Kurmi and Dalit communities.

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.
