A majority of the state associations appear to have planned to stay away from the prestigious BCCI Annual Awards function to be held in Bengaluru on Wednesday, in what could act as a dampener for the grand occasion.
“We are boycotting the awards function, we are not aware of Vidarbha and Tripura’s plans, but no current BCCI office-bearer or ex-office bearers will go for the function. Only the bureaucrats will be in attendance,” said a state association member.
The Vidarbha and Tripura Cricket Associations have implemented the Lodha Committee’s recommendations while the rest of the associations have adopted delaying tactics. From Vidarbha CA, their President Anand Jaiswal and secretary BS Bhatti are expected to be in attendance.
The state associations are boycotting the awards function, protesting against the tone of the invitation letter sent by the BCCI, which mentioned that the officials disqualified as per the Supreme Court order should stay away from the function.
At earlier awards functions, apart from the current officials, senior former state officials were also used to be routinely invited.
While confirming that his state association is skipping the awards function, the president of the Maharashtra Cricket Association Abhay Apte said: “We are working, and are not going (to attend), but we would like to congratulate all the recipient of the awards. People like Padamkar Shivalkar and Rajinder Goel are deserving winners.”
