English cricketer suffers horrific head injury during match | Watch

Luke Fletcher, Nottinghamshire cricketer, was hit straight back on the head while bowling against Warwickshire last Friday. He has been ruled out of rest of the season.

Nottinghamshire seamer Luke Fletcher has been ruled out of rest of the season after he suffered a horrifying head injury last week while bowling against Warwickshire at Birmingham last Friday.

The right-arm fast bowler had been hit straight back on his head in the fourth over after he was brought in as a change for Harry Gurney who conceded 10 runs in the second over. Sam Hain was batting on 16 off 10 deliveries when Fletcher came into bowl his first over but the injury left everyone shaken. Fletcher was soon dismissed for 17 while Warwickshire won the game with a run off the last ball of the innings to win the match by six wickets.

Injuries in sports are quite common and head injuries have often led to extreme situations. According to the English tabloid, the English and Wales Cricket Board are now looking at possibilities to introduce concussion substitutes and skull caps for bowlers.

Fletcher too, backed the idea and was quoted saying: “Whatever they do it has to be comfortable for the bowlers. If it is, and there is proof it does work, most bowlers will use that equipment. The way the game has moved forward, with some of the speeds them balls are coming back at bowlers, is ridiculous.”
