Former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been appointed as a member of the prestigious World Cricket Committee by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). The news was announced by the all-rounder, who posting the induction letter on his official Facebook page, on Thursday.
Besides Shakib, the other members of the committee are: Mike Gatting (chairman), Ramiz Raja, Sourav Ganguly, Charlotte Edwards, Vintcent Van der Bijl, Jimmy Adams, Rod Marsh, Tim May, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Ian Bishop, Kumar Dharmasena and Suzie Bates.
The MCC, founded in 1877 and the sole authority to change the rules of cricket, holds two annual meetings where they discuss issues relating to the sport. Shakib, while posting the picture, stated: “I truly feel humbled that you have chosen me to be a member of the Prestigious MCC World Cricket Committee. Thank you for bestowing me with such an honour.”
Shakib al Hasan has been the backbone of Bangladesh’s rising standard in world cricket, the pinnacle of which perhaps was the recent Test victory over Australia.
Although they went on to lose the second Test and thus failed to pull off a sensational series victory over the Baggy Greens, the emphatic match victory underlined that the country could no longer be tagged as ‘minnows’.
