Shikhar Mohan dominated the proceedings in the second session but lost his wicket against the run of play and was dismissed for 85, missing out on a well-deserved century. Earlier, East Zone dominated the opening session of the Duleep Trophy final against the South Zone as Abhimanyu Easwaran and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hammered the bowlers all around the park. However, the duo lost their wickets before the lunch break, and the opposition staged a brief comeback on Day 1 of the contest at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai after the visitors won the toss and opted to bat. Sooryavanshi scored 44, while Easwaran returned to the hut for 72.
The South Zone received a boost ahead of the final, as Mohammed Siraj and Devdutt Padikkal became available for the high-profile domestic encounter. With both sides arriving after hard-fought wins, the final promises an engaging contest between two teams eager to finish the tournament on a high note.
The Ishan Kishan-led East Zone booked their place in the title clash with a four-wicket win over Central Zone. On the other hand, the South Zone, captained by India's T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma, outclassed the North Zone by seven wickets in the second semi-final.
