The Indian Oil players couldn't have had a worse start to their cricketing season.
With their Group C match against Tata Sports Club abandoned because of rain on Thursday, they have been knocked out of the Corporate Trophy without playing a single game.
Tata, who won against All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board (AIPSSPB) on Tuesday, have entered the semifinals. They will now take on the winners of Group A in the semifinals in Mohali on Sunday.
Indian Oil skipper Wasim Jaffer blamed it on the inappropriate scheduling of the tournament during the monsoon.
“It would have been better if the tournament was slotted a couple of weeks later. Then it would have been more successful. It's not just in Dharamsala, the matches are being hampered everywhere. In Mohali and in Bangalore too the situation is the same,” he said.
Match referee Manu Nayyar said: “The match has been abandoned and we are going according to the rules of the tournament.
“And nowhere did they mention anything about rescheduling.”
