JP Duminy announces retirement from First-class and List A cricket

Weeks before ICC World Cup 2019, South Africa middle order batsman JP Duminy sprung in a surprise by announcing his retirement from List A and First-class cricket. Duminy, however, will continue to ply his trade in T20 tournaments across the globe.
Duminy, who had already announced that the upcoming ODI World Cup in England, starting from May 30, will be his final tryst with international cricket, took the decision on Friday. The news was confirmed by Cape Cobras’ – the side Duminy represented in South Africa’s domestic cricket - coach Ashwell Prince.
The 35-year-old brought an end to his 19-year-old career in which he scored 6,774 runs in 108 matches at an average of 46.08.
In List A cricket, he scored 7,408 runs in 269 matches at an average of 38.78. In T20 cricket, he managed to rack up 6,106 runs at an average of 37.46 in 252 matches. Duminy is also the highest run-scorer for South Africa in T20 cricket.
Duminy, who made his international debut back in 2004 has represented South Africa in 46 Tests, 194 ODIs and 81 T20Is scoring 2103, 5047 and 1934 runs respectively.
He will once again play a key role in South Africa’s World Cup campaign which starts against Virat Kohli’s India on June 5.
