Two teams with completely different fortunes face off in Monday’s clash. Sachin Tendulkar’s Mumbai Indians are already in the semifinals while Sourav Ganguly’s Kolkata Knight Riders are far from there, depending heavily on what happens in the other games.
With contrasting goals in mind, the teams had a similar day ahead of the match. The Mumbai Indians are not here, scheduled to arrive on Monday morning. The Knights Riders too had a day off with a dinner at captain Ganguly’s home.
Tendulkar’s team has hit the right chords so far and they will be hoping that the good run continues. Winning most of what they have come across is good news, but they are due for a bad day and they’d be hoping it comes before the knockout round.
The example of the Delhi Daredevils last year is still fresh in the mind, when they lost in the semifinals after having won almost everything before that.
The Knight Riders can only look forward to what happens elsewhere and win the only match that’s left, against the most successful team of this year’s tournament. It’s a tall order, but KKR have to believe that they can do it.
Apart from the match that is on the cards, there is a clash of two incredible individuals. Tendulkar and Ganguly are icons on merit in slightly different ways, but they are fascinating characters. One is a master and the other one is somebody who keeps defying odds.
