England were 196/4 at stumps on the opening day of the first Ashes Test against Australia at the Gabba on Thursday. The tourists lost Alastair Cook (2), Mark Stoneman (53), Joe Root (15) and James Vince was run out for 83 by a Nathan Lyon throw. Dawid Malan was unbeaten on 28 with Moeen Ali was on 13. For Australia, Pat Cummins took two wickets. Cummins said his dismissal of Joe Root was “the dream wicket” and feels the first Ashes Test is evenly poised after the opening day at the Gabba.
