The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has cracked down on age fudging and provisionally suspended seven players found to be overage. Twenty other players are being investigated and have been barred from further participation in the MCA summer camp tournaments that are on, officials said.
A final decision on the players under scanner was to be taken at the MCA managing committee on Wednesday, but the meeting got postponed.

“We have received numerous complaints and have become more vigilant on the issue. In many cases, the parents have written letters about such players and we have acted upon them after investigation,” MCA joint secretary, Unmesh Khanvilkar, told HT.
The players under scanner are from the U-14 to U-23 categories.

An MCA source said there was even the case of a player, who stopped going to school in 2008 but was still playing in the inter-school tournaments. In another case, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has told the MCA that the birth certificate submitted to the cricket body was not issued by the corporation.
