South Africa Women vs New Zealand Women Commentary

5:20 PM IST The wait is nearly over - With that, another round of the warm-up games comes to an end, and 8 out of the 12 teams will now start preparing for their tournament openers. There are still a couple of matches left, comprising four well-known sides, who will take part in the warm-ups tomorrow. Things will begin with a clash between England Women and India Women at Cardiff on Wednesday, June 9, at 9 am GMT. This will be followed by a match-up between Australia Women and West Indies Women at the very same venue. You can join us a lot sooner for the build-up of both games as well. Cheers!
5:14 PM IST The skipper of New Zealand Women - Amelia Kerr starts by saying that South Africa are a quality side, and to chase down a big score against them feels good. Adds that she is looking forward for the tournament to get underway, and mentions that cricket is a funny game, at times it doesn't work out for you and you just have to hang in there. On Sophie Devine, Kerr adds that she has been awesome and she's in a very good place with her game and also mentally. On the tournament opener against West Indies, Kerr says that the Windies have a few match-winners, but you just need to focus and control the controllables.
5:13 PM IST The captain of South Africa Women - Laura Wolvaardt says that the result was pretty disappointing. She reckons that the pitch was a bit slow and they could have done better. They did well in the Powerplay with the ball, but they leaked many runs in the middle overs. However, she praises the innings of Chole Tryon, and she hopes that Tryon carries this performance in the big stages.
5:09 PM IST The two skippers are now up for a chat...
5:09 PM IST A few unanswered questions for the Proteas - A late barrage from Chloe Tryon and Nadine De Klerk did take South Africa Women to a solid total, but they were off their mark with the ball. Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail bowled decently without threatening the opposition much, and Ayabonga Khaka was rather expensive. Nonkululeko Mlaba and Nadine De Klerk were good in the middle overs, but overall, the bowling simply wasn't upto the mark, and there were also a few lapses in the field which the Proteas would want to take care of heading into the main event.
5:06 PM IST Skipper stands out yet again - Amelia Kerr has been in sensational form of late, especially while playing for the White Ferns, and yet again, when the pressure was mounting, she pulled her side into a position of promise. Georgia Plimmer started off well, but got bogged down a bit after the Powerplay and Kerr's 61 off just off just 32 balls gave new life to the chase. Then it was the former skipper, Sophie Devine, who played an eye-catching cameo before the likes of Brooke Halliday and Maddy Green laid the finishing touches, with just two balls to spare.
