Younis had an indefinite ban removed by the appellate tribunal appointed by the Board in July, but PCB has refused to give clearance to the national selectors to consider him until he meets with the Chairman of the Board Ijaz Butt and seeks pardon.

Well placed sources in the Board told PTI that a notice has been sent to Younis, in which he has been given one week's time to respond. "He has basically been told that he must come forward to clarify his position and resolve his case and if he does not respond the Board will issue him a fresh showcause notice and move to re-impose a ban on him,"

The notice to Younis apparently is a move to pressurise the former captain as there has been growing public anger and criticism from the media and former players over the PCB's refusal to consider Younis for the national team.

Chief selector Mohsin Khan confirmed that the selectors first preference was to get Younis back into the team for the Test series, but the Board Chairman had not given them clearance for this.

"We needed a senior player to strengthen our batting line-up," Mohsin told The News.

"Our first choice was Younis Khan but we didn't get any clearance (from the PCB), after which we discussed the option of recalling Misbah and decided to go for it," he said.
