Phil Salt

Age 27EnglandENGLAND
Right Handed Wicket Keeper

Phil Salt is a hard-hitting right-handed top-order batter who hails from England. He grew interested in the game after winning a scholarship to play cricket at Reed School in Surrey, and he gave up football for that. He was recommended to Keith Medlycott and joined their academy. Salt made his List A debut in 2015 and his FC debut in 2016. However, he burst onto the scene in 2018. He scored two tons in that season and also helped Sussex to reach the Blast final. The following season, Salt smashed two more hundreds and ended up being the highest run scorer for Sussex in the One-day Cup. Meanwhile, he was also picked up by Adelaide as one of their overseas players and also played in the Caribbean T20 League final for Barbados and lifted the title. In 2020, Salt thrashed a 58-ball hundred against Ireland in a warm-up game, but England decided to go with their existing players and Salt returned to domestic cricket. However, a foot injury kept him out of the start of the 2021 championship season. Salt announced a move from Sussex to Lancashire for the 2022 season.
Salt was added to the England T20I squad for the one-off match against Pakistan in 2019 but did not play. He made his ODI debut in 2021 against Pakistan. In 2022, he played his first T20I against West Indies and scored a blistering 24-ball 57, although in a losing cause. Salt scored his first ODI century against the Netherlands in the same year. He also impressed in the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan and was named in the squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. With his attacking style of batting and talent, he could be one of the X-factors for England in the near future. These performances led to him being bought by the Delhi franchise for the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League.
