Steven Finn

Steven Finn built a reputation for extracting discomfort from surfaces where most seamers found little help. The Watford-born quick emerged through Middlesex as a teenager, making his first-class debut for the county at 16 in 2005, and his extreme bounce off a high-arm action soon marked him out as a rare English seamer capable of unsettling batters even on flat pitches.

Steven played for Middlesex across close to two decades either side of his international career, later turning out for Sussex and Manchester Originals in The Hundred. Spells at Otago Volts and Islamabad United added a franchise dimension to his domestic resume, before he retired from professional cricket in 2023. Finn's Test debut came against Bangladesh at Chattogram in March 2010, where he was drafted in as injury cover and immediately impressed on a docile pitch. His One-Day International debut followed in January 2011 against Australia, with a Twenty20 International cap against West Indies arriving later that year. That breakout year brought the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award in 2010.

Across 36 Tests he claimed 125 wickets at an average of 30.40, with a best of 6 for 79, while his white-ball numbers ran to 102 wickets in 69 ODIs and 27 in 21 T20Is. He was part of three Ashes-winning squads, in 2010-11, 2012-13 and 2015. Outside his playing career, Finn moved into broadcasting as a commentator, a path that began in 2019 while he was still an active cricketer and continued once he retired in 2023.
