‘I've seen him get out behind the wickets in first-class cricket’: Ex-IND batter points out Ruturaj Gaikwad's weakness
The former Test player claimed that he has seen Ruturaj Gaikwad getting outside edges on many occasions while playing in first-class cricket.
After a sensational outing in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has not been in the best of form this time around. The 25-year-old has been struggling and has just managed two runs in the three matches Chennai have played so far.

Reflecting back at the CSK opener's shoddy show, former India Test batter Wasim Jaffer observed that Gaikwad has problems facing swinging deliveries.

IPL 2022: CSK stutter but Ravindra Jadeja confident of rebound
“He does get out nicking. Even in first-class cricket, I have seen him get out behind the wickets. The pitches here (in Mumbai) are helping the fast bowlers. The ball is swinging and it’s not like Dubai, where the ball was on the shorter side. He’s a quality player, but he needs to find a way and come good for CSK to start winning again,” Jaffer said during an interaction on ESPNcricinfo.
Meanwhile, despite his lackluster show at the top CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja has backed the batter to do well as the tournament proceeds.
"We need to give him confidence as we all know he's a very good player. I'm sure he will come good," said the captain about Gaikwad during the post-match presentation ceremony after CSK's encounter against Punjab Kings, which the former lost by 54 runs.
The opener was a hit in the previous season and had also won the Orange Cap after accumulating 635 runs from 16 matches. Batting at an average of 45.35, he had then scored one century and four half-centuries and played an important role in helping CSK lift the trophy for the fourth time in the history of the competition.
