Dhawan, starting with new opening partner Shreevats Goswami, made his intentions clear in the first over as he hit Nitish Rana for a four off the first ball itself. He then went after Prasidh Krishna in the second over with a couple of fours.
The severity of Dhawan and Goswami’s onslaught was so intense that KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik used five bowlers in the powerplay. However, that did not stop the duo from scoring 60 runs in the first six overs.
The timing of Dhawan was particularly impressive as he regularly found the gap in the extra cover region. He and Goswami notched a 53-ball 79-run stand before the latter departed off Kuldeep Yadav in the ninth over.
Though the scoring pace decreased Dhawan and No. 3 batsman Kane Williamson kept the scorecard moving with good running between the wickets as SRH reached 92/1 in 10 overs.
