Joe Root slammed a tenacious 124 as England overturned a deficit of 46 from the first innings to a lead of 278 with one wicket remaining on Day 3 at Kandy. Rory Burns also hit a half century, his first in England colours. Ben Foakes continued his fine start to his test career, also hitting a 50 and he was unbeaten at the end of the day with James Anderson.
