England beat Sri Lanka by 42 runs in the third and final Test of the series to take the series 3-0. It was always an uphill task for Sri Lanka chasing 327 to win in the fourth innings of the match. Beginning day 4 at 53/4 the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals and though Malinda Pushpakumara and Suranga Lakmal added 58 for the final wicket to revive hope, the partnership in the end went in vain. Moeen Ali and Jack Leach picked up four wickets each in the final innings.
