Women’s T20 Challenge Highlights: Supernovas beat Trailblazers by 2 runs

Highlights from the third match of the Women’s T20 Challenge featuring Trailblazers and Supernovas, led by Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur respectively.

Radha Yadav held her nerve in the final over as Supernovas beat Trailblazers by two runs in the third match of Women’s T20 Challenge at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Trailblazers will now be locking horns against Supernovas in the finals of the tournament on Monday, November 9.

23:00 hrs: Supernovas beat Trailblazers by 2 runs.

22:50 hrs: 19 overs gone, Trailblazers - 137/4. A 46-run stand between Deepti Sharma (42*)and Harleen Deol (22*) has brought the Trailblazers on the verge of a win. They need 10 runs off the last six balls.

22:20 hrs: OUT! Trailblazers skipper Smriti Mandha departs for 33 off 40. Anuja Patil strikes to break the 35-run stand for the third wicket. Trailblazer - 83/3 after 12.3 overs.

21:50 hrs: OUT! Back to back wickets for Supernovas as Trailblazers lose Deandra Dottin and Richa Ghosh to Selman in the same over. Trailblazers 48/2 in 6.5 overs.

21:35 hrs: Three overs gone, The Trailblazers openers Smriti Mandhan and Deandra Dottin have started off positively to take the score to 22/0

21:18 hrs: Wickets falling in a cluster. Supernovas finish on 146/6. Great comeback from the Trailblazers bowlers.

20:48 hrs: OUT! Caught and bowled. Soft dismissal for Jemimah Rodrigues as she chips the ball back to Jhulan Goswami. She goes for 1 and Supernovas are 122/3 in 17.1 overs.

20:42 hrs: OUT! Athapaththu departs. Tries to go over the top off the bowling of Harleen Deol, and is out caught at long off. She goes for 67. Supernovas 118/2 in 16.2 overs.

20:28 hrs: Fifty for Athapaththu, off 37 balls. The experienced campaigner has risen to the occasion in this must-win clash for the Supernovas. Seven overs remain, the score is 96/1.

20:24 hrs: OUT! A wicket at last for the Trailblazers. Deepti Sharma takes a splendid running catch, almost colliding with another fielder to send back Priya Punia for 30. Supernovas lose their first wicket for 89. Salma Khatun with the wicket.

20:15 hrs: Trailblazers‘s search for the first wicket continues. 11 overs gone and Supernovas have moded to 87/0. Athapaththu just 4 short of a half-century, while Punia has moved to 29 off 25. Remember, Supernovas have to win this one to give themselves a chance in the final.

20:00 hrs: Fifty up for Supernovas - The floodgates have opened with Priya Punia and Chamari Athapaththu going all guns blazing. The fourth and fifth overs went for combined 30 runs with 15 coming off each. Punia has been the watchful of the two batters. 19:30 hrs: Smriti: I wanted to field first and my toss record is not that great and even in the last game it didn’t go our way, but I am happy to bowl first. We got a day off yesterday just had a small team meeting and watched the men’s IPL, some rest and ready for tonight’s game. It looks like a better wicket than the one day before. We are going with the same team.

Harmanpreet: We will bat first. It’s a must-win game for us and we thought if we bat first it will be advantage for us as we have added one extra spinner to our team. All of us are having a good time in the nets. Change of pace is key as a bowler.
