Amid violence, Delhi Police appeals to citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony

More than 150 people have been injured in the violence after clashes broke out between pro and anti CAA protesters.

Amid violence in the northeastern district, Delhi Police on Tuesday appealed to citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony in the city.

The appeal by the city police came as the death toll in the incidents of violence that took place in various areas of northeast Delhi over the past two days rose to 13.The dead include one Delhi Police Head Constable.

In its appeal, the Delhi Police said it has “kept strict vigil on mischievous elements and elements” and advised people “not to lend ear rumour mongers and unverified messages being circulated on Social Media’.

Earlier in the day, Union home minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other political leaders regarding the violence and prevailing situation in the violence-hit areas.

Kejriwal, along with deputy CM Manish Sisodia visited the injured being treated at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and called for peace, saying “this madness must end immediately”.
