Body builder electrocuted to death in Outer Delhi

Luv’s family members and neighbours blamed Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) for alleged negligence and went on to stage a protest later by blocking a road in Kirari.

A 27-year-old man, a body builder by profession, was electrocuted in outer Delhi’s Kirari on Saturday after touching an advertisement board which was carrying electricity after coming in contact with a high-tension wire.

The deceased, Luv Kumar Soni, had participated in several national-level bodybuilding competitions. Of late, he was helping his father run the family’s jewellery shop in Kirari. According to his family, he was scheduled to be married in October this year.

“Soni was also an active BJP worker in the area,” said his brother, Inder Verma.

On Friday afternoon, Soni had gone to the terrace of his two-storey building that also houses his jewellery showroom. Suddenly, there was a loud sound after which his family members rushed to the terrace.

“We found Luv lying unconscious on the terrace floor. His shoes and pants were torn. We rushed him to a hospital, but he was declared brought dead,” said Verma.

The spokespersons said that the power distribution company was not to be blamed as they had installed the wires at sufficient height and as per rules set by the government. “The people will have to take necessary precautions,” said the spokesperson. Police said they were probing whether there was any negligence in the death.
