Delhi Police welcomes women commandos in Parakram Vans to fight against terrorism

Delhi Police, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, has launched 14 additional anti-terrorism vans with women commandos as a part of each team.

Women have forayed into different fields now, but in a first-of-its-kind initiative, they have joined their male counterparts to fight terrorism. As part of the newly introduced fleet of 14 Parakram Vans in Delhi, there are women commandos, who will counter terrorism.

“When we talk about gender equality, initiatives like these bring a fair mix of both genders. Women are trained in the same way as men. So, their strength should be utilised in the same manner. Also, since they are new recruits and have more energy and passion, they are more effective. We have 10 women commandos now, and we will be getting 15 more,” says Monika Bhardwaj, DCP (PCR).

Parakram Vans were introduced to fight against terrorism and are placed at different locations in the city. One van consists of a team of five — three commandos, one NSG trained driver and one incharge. “This initiative is to make a special unit for the security of the country, and I feel proud to be a part of it,” says Dimpal Goswami, a woman commando.

To make the vans better, more initiatives will be taken in near future. Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police, says, “We will keep taking initiatives to provide world-class equipments to the commandos, which will work as a force multiplier, and will increase their efficiency to combat terrorism.”
