Sanchit Chhabra and Ritu Singh, both 19 year olds, were killed when a Honda City they were travelling to attend an exam flew off a flyover on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi around 8.30 am.

Sanchit’s father, Raj Kumar Chhabra, said he would have donated all the organs of his dead son had the thought struck him on time.

“By the time an NGO approached us with request for donation, only eyes of my son were usable. We agreed to donate his eyes without a second thought. My son was a helpful and friendly boy. Even in his death, he will be helping people,” said Raj Kumar.

Ritu’s father, Malkhan Singh, too agreed to donate her daughter’s eyes without a second thought. “The NGO has invited me to meet the two persons who will receive Ritu’s eyes. My daughter will live in those two persons forever. I will meet them and stay in touch with them my entire life,” said her father amidst tears.

Fighting off their tears, the two fathers put up a brave front while speaking to the media and exhorted others to follow their footsteps.

“Most people are unaware of the contribution they can make to the world even after the loss of their dear ones. My heart feels lighter on thinking about the contribution my daughter has made even in her death,” said Malkhan Singh.

“People should be made aware about organ donation. My only regret is that her other organs were not usable,” he added.
