In a ghastly murder that played out in front of their two minor sons, a man slit his 30-year-old wife’s throat with a knife before clubbing her with a cooking gas cylinder.
The crime took place in south Delhi’s Badarpur on Saturday evening at the woman’s maternal home. The accused Parveen was caught at the crime spot within minutes of the murder. He told the police that he had committed the crime as he suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, said Romil Baaniya, DCP (southeast).
Parveen, 32, and Meenakshi had been married for over a decade. However, Parveen did not have a stable job because of which there were frequent quarrels between the couple.
Forced by their precarious financial situation and discord, Meenakshi had recently moved into her parents’ house in Badarpur along with their two sons. While Parveen did not accompany her, he often visited them.
The quarrels, however, continued. On Saturday night, when Meenakshi’s parents were away, one such quarrel turned deadly.
Parveen allegedly brought out the kitchen knife and slit Meenakshi’s throat even as she kept screaming for help. Then, as their two sons, aged four and 10, watched, Parveen allegedly picked up the cooking gas cylinder and repeatedly attacked her, killing her on the spot.
Parveen was caught at the crime scene minutes later. He has been booked for murder and sent to jail.
