Man beaten to death in Delhi’s Nangloi after argument over brushing of shoulders
Police arrested the alleged accused in the evening after some locals told them that they had seen the victim being beaten up by the accused.
A 26-year-old man was thrashed to death on Sunday afternoon, allegedly by another man following an altercation over the victim’s shoulder touching his while they were crossing a road in outer Delhi’s Nangloi.
The victim had apparently gone to meet his friends after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with his sister at their home in Nangloi’s JJ Colony, the police said. Locals told police that the accused allegedly jumped several times on the victim’s body after physically assaulting him.
Police arrested the alleged accused in the evening after some locals told them that they had seen the victim being beaten up by the accused.
The arrested man was identified by his single name, Deepak.
Police said Deepak was drunk when during the altercation with the victim, Jeetu. Deepak collects cash at public convenience outlets in Nangloi area.
Police statistics show that out of 487 murder cases reported in 2017, around 19% were committed over sudden provocation or in a fit of rage. In 2016, out of 528 murder cases, around 16% were over the similar reasons.
A police officer associated with the case said the crime took place around 4pm at Camp Number-2 near Raigar Chaupal in Nangloi. A local resident called the police control room and informed that a man was lying unconscious near a public park.
A police team reached the crime spot and rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police identified him as Jeetu, who lived with his family in JJ Colony, Nangloi.
A case of murder was registered and investigation was taken up.
During enquiry, police learnt that Deepak had allegedly assaulted Jeetu in front of a crowd.
Several people witnessed the assault and a few filmed it on their mobile phones but nobody came to rescue him, said the police.
“We arrested Deepak and he was interrogated. He revealed that he was walking on the road when Jeetu’s shoulder brushed against his. Both passed some remarks after which a fight broke out between them. Deepak claimed that he was drunk when he assaulted Jeetu,” the officer added.
Police said Jeetu apparently died of internal injuries, though they were waiting for his autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
