Man’s body cut into pieces, stuffed in bag, dumped in northeast Delhi’s drain

A case of murder has been registered at the Welcome police station and investigations are underway. The body has been preserved in the mortuary of Guru Teg Bahadur hospital.

The body of a man cut into three pieces and stuffed in a jute bag was found in a drain in West Gorakh Park area near Welcome in northeast Delhi on Monday morning. The identity of the man, aged around 30 years, could not be established till late evening, said police.

AK Singla, deputy commissioner of police (northeast), said the crime came to their notice at around 10am through a call made to the police control room. A local resident, who was passing by the drain, spotted blood coming out of a jute bag and alerted other residents. One of the residents called the police control room.

A team from the Welcome police station reached there and took out the bag from the drain. The sack was opened and a man’s body cut in three pieces was found. The man’s clothes were intact but no identification documents were found.

“Prima facie it appears that his throat was slit with a sharp weapon and then the same weapon was used to cut his body. Those who committed the crime apparently wanted to hide the victim’s identity and mislead us in the probe,” said a police officer associated with the investigation.

Investigators are contacting police stations across Delhi-NCR and preparing a list from their missing persons complaints from the last three-four days of men in the age group of 25 and 35 years. “We will examine the details and photographs of the missing persons to identify the man whose body we found in the bag,” the officer added.

Police are also examining footage of CCTV cameras installed in vicinity of the drain to identify the suspects who dumped the bag containing the body in the drain.
