A 17-year-old maid was found dead in her employers’ house in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Wednesday evening.

Though the police said that initial investigation indicated suicide, the family of the victim alleged that the teenager was murdered and hanged to the ceiling fan. The family blamed the employer for her death alleging she knew a secret. The exact cause of death, however, will be clear after the post-mortem report is out, police said.

“My daughter had told me a few men visited the house when her employer was alone at home. In such a situation, she was asked to go to the playground and play with her child. I told her not to open her mouth. I did not know that this would cost us her life,” the victim’s mother told media.

The victim was a native of West Bengal and had started working with her employer around a year ago.

“We found marks around the victim’s neck and head and it seems to be a case of suicide. If something else surfaces in the post-mortem report, we will proceed with our investigation in that direction,” a senior police said.
