The group of MLAs also requested the chairman of the power regulator to bring private power companies under the purview of Right to Information as Delhiites have a right to know where the rot is.

“Private power companies are looting the people of Delhi and they intend to increase the power tariff again in the coming months. They have fabricated their balance sheets and truth will come out after the CAG audit,” said Mukesh Sharma, senior Congress MLA.

The Congress MLAs urged the DERC chairman to roll back the power hike and wait till the CAG report was out.

“The DERC chairman told us that the power companies had shown a loss of Rs 12,000 crore in their balance sheets. Out of this we accepted the claim of only Rs 6,000 crore. With the recent hike only Rs 1,200 crore will be recovered in seven months. A power tariff hike is inevitable in the coming months,” said Subhash Chopra, senior Congress MLA.

“If corrective measures are not taken, Delhiites will be forced to pay R10 per unit in the coming months,” said Neeraj Basoiya, Congress MLA.
