A 52-year-old woman from Kashmir, who would fly down to Delhi only on weekends to commit thefts at crowded markets, has been arrested. Police said she would target only women at crowded markets such as Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar.

The woman, identified as Irfana Samim, a resident of Dargaha Hazarat Bal in Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested by a team from the Lajpat Nagar police station. Irfana was caught stealing valuables, including a wallet containing cash and cell phones, from the bag of a woman while she was busy shopping.
Interestingly, Irfana was wearing jewellery worth R5 lakh when she was caught with the stolen articles. According to a senior officer, she had done this to make herself look like a high-profile woman and hoodwink the police.
“The woman was so professional in her work that she started scolding our women police personnel in English. Our first impression was that she may not be a thief. We would have easily let her go had the stolen items not been found in her possession,” a senior officer said.
