These detectors, being bought from a US-based company, will automatically send a signal to the fire control panel upon detection of smoke and thereafter to the alarm hooter, prompting security officials to activate safety and evacuation operations. These devices, which will serve to alert both air passengers and employees, will make the airport security system more efficient.

“We have been finalised bids to put 30,000 smoke detectors and sensors in place at the Delhi airport. The operation will cost a few lakh rupees,” said Arun Khanzanchi, president, Fire and Safety Association of India.
