Impostor cops dupe woman of jewellery

The victim, Latika Tondon, is a resident of J-Block in the area. "Latika was walking towards her house, when three men on a motorcycle stopped her near the Summer Fields School," said a senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

"They asked her to remove her jewellery, saying that they were police officers and she was at risk as snatchers were roaming in the area. She did as was told, and the trio fled with the jewellery."

The woman went back home and told her son Harish, who informed the police. The police have registered a case and are on a lookout for the accused.

In a similar case, a man pretending to be a police officer was arrested in southwest Delhi on Tuesday.

The accused allegedly even tore off the uniform of a beat constable when he tried to stop him.

The accused, Sujeet Kumar, is a resident of the Gopal Nagar area in Najafgarh.

He was caught when he went to a tea stall in the area and got into a fight with the owner. "Sujeet was wearing a raggedy Delhi police uniform and threatened the tea stall owner after they had an argument," the officer said.

"Constable Rakesh Kumar, who was in the area, asked the accused where he was posted. Sujeet said he lived in Rajouri Garden and the whole area was under him," the officer added.

The accused then got into a fight with the constable and tore his uniform. He also tried to flee from the spot, but was caught.

The police have registered a case of impersonation against him.
