Impostor held for stealing cell phone

Man used to pose as a junior resident and steal phones of doctors at AIIMS, Sadarjung; police recover 21 stolen mobile phones.

The Delhi Police have arrested a 23-year-old man, who used to go to AIIMS and Safdarjung hospital posing as a doctor and steal phones and other valuables of doctors.

Police have recovered 21 stolen mobile phones from his possession. The accused, identified as Amandeep Singh, was arrested following a complaint of Dr. Vijay Mishra of Safdarjung Hospital. Mishra told the police that Amandeep, who was working as a junior resident in the department of burns, could be behind this. "But further investigation revealed that he was not appointed by the hospital and his name was not mentioned in hospital records," a senior police officer said.

Police have also arrested one Jitender alias Jitu, 22, to whom Singh used to sell the stolen phones. During interrogation, Singh told the police that he wanted to be a doctor but due to his family problems, he could not continue his studies further.

His activities were not observed and no one pin pointed on him. Thereafter, with full confidence, he started committing theft of valuables and mobile phones from the duty rooms of the doctors at Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS.

“The act of the accused was not detectable, as many of the medical students used to practice in the hospitals and he was fluent in English language which further supported him,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.
