Jat protests: Brace for long snarls at Delhi-NCR border, 4000 police out on streets

People travelling between Delhi and the national capital towns of Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad and others may suffer clogged roads and long snarls as the police set up posts at city borders to check protesters travelling from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

A senior police official said protestors would only be allowed to travel in buses and no tractor and bullock cart would be permitted to cross the border to keep congestion in Delhi under check. More than 4,000 personnel will be out on the streets to handle demonstrations.

He added that the maximum mobilisation of forces had been done at border and after proper frisking, protestors would be allowed to enter the city.

More than 10, 000 members of the community are expected to reach the Capital to put pressure on the government to set aside seats for them in jobs and education. Their protest rally is scheduled for 11am.

The police officer further said that police personnel of all the eleven districts reserved for emergency situations and other units have been adequately squeezed and deployment made on borders and on routes which the Jat protesters may take to enter Delhi and reach Jantar Mantar.

“Maximum mobilisation of force is at borders. Adequate arrangements have been made especially at Mundka, Sindhu border, and NH 24 to prevent traffic snarls in the city. They will not be allowed to carry cooking material,” he said.
