‘Make special arrangements to teach maths’

A committee examining the reasons behind several DU students failing in the Maths paper under the revised curriculum has recommended that colleges make special arrangement to teach the subject in the relevant paper.

It said special arrangements be made by colleges where the failure rate is 35 per cent or more, an HRD official said.

Observing that certain colleges had admitted more students than the sanctioned strength in Mathematics, the committee recommended that an explanation be sought from the principals concerned.

The committee was set up after a number of B.Sc. (Hons) students had failed this year in the Maths part I programme under the revised curricula. DU had constituted the committee after receiving a representation from students. The panel has asked DU to seek details of teachers involved in teaching the paper in affected colleges.
