MCG outsources fencing work of Biodiversity Park

In yet another drive to conserve the environment on the eco-fragile Aravali Hills and safeguard it from the eyes of encroachers and land mafia, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has outsourced the work of fencing of 250 acres of land of the Aravali Biodiversity Park near DLF City III. In yet another drive to conserve the environment on the eco-fragile Aravali Hills and safeguard it from the eyes of encroachers and land mafia, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has outsourced the work of fencing of 250 acres of land of the Aravali Biodiversity Park near DLF City III.

It has also given out the work of planting 5,500 saplings in the park to the forest department that would also maintain these plants for the next two years.

Sharing border with the ridge area of New Delhi along MG Road, the Biodiversity Park was launched on the World Environment Day on June 5 by the MCG that has also roped in social organisations for the project.

The park would initially have water bodies, water harvesting pits and jogging and cycling tracks for nature lovers besides a variety of vegetation and bird species. It would later be developed as a night safari destination or wild life park, the MCG officials said.

“We have contracted out the work of fencing 250 acres of land of the park to the forest department that would charge us at the rate of Rs 175 per metre along the Delhi border. We want to protect the green patch from encroachers and land mafia,” said Rajesh Khullar, MCG commissioner.

The MCG had also begun work of fencing the portion of the park facing MG Road with a gabion wall (hilly stones stacked in wire mesh to check unauthorised entry into the park).

“We also aim to set up a green attraction for the people entering Gurgaon from Delhi. We would develop the park in four phases. In the first phase, we would have 14 water bodies, water harvesting pits, jogging and cycling tracks, solar panels and an education centre for children,” said Khullar.
