Monkey menace continues in East Delhi

Even as another person was mauled by a group of monkeys, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) claims to have placed monkey traps in Mayur Vihar Phase-II.
The civic agency said that it has intensified its drive to catch monkeys by paying special attention to the East Delhi area.
"We have placed a trap in Pocket B of Mayur Vihar Phase-II and will be placing more such traps on Friday. We will also be deploying extra staff to ensure all the monkeys are removed from the area. If anyone is facing any problem they should call on our helpline," said Deep Mathur, director press and information, MCD.
The civic body said that it will also be launching a special drive to remove monkeys from all the surrounding areas of the Games venues.
"We will be launching the drive soon. But we have requested all the people not to feed these monkeys in public area. We have placed special collection centres for this purpose at a lot of temples," added Mathur.
Another resident of Mayur Vihar Phase-II, ML Sood (78) was attacked by a group of monkeys when he had gone for his morning walk.
"I saw a group of monkeys sitting in the park. I waited for them to disperse and some of them did. When I started moving they attacked me and I fell. I hurt my knee badly," said Sood.
The residents of the area have been facing this problem for quite some time but things have remained grim.
The area has been getting on an average of 20 complaints of monkey bite everyday.
