Flooded with complaints as well as suggestions about poor connectivity in some West Delhi colonies and new bus routes that the DTC can possibly start, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to introduce a Mudrika service exclusively for west Delhi.

Senior DTC officials said they have prepared a tentative route for the new bus service and discussed it with transport minister on Monday and are likely to roll out new bus service from March 1.

“We have got approval for the new bus service. The route has to be finetuned and that will be done soon,” a senior DTC officials said, requesting anonymity. According to officials, buses will take 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the 45-kilometre-long route. D TC will initially deploy 12 buses each to run clockwise and anti-clockwise with a 15-minute frequency. The fleet will have both AC and non-AC buses.

Though there are several bus routes that connect West Delhi with different parts of the Capital, DTC officials said there were very few buses that connect important landmarks in that part of the city.

Though there is a Metro line that cut through west Delhi, officials agreed that it was not enough to cater to the entire population.

“We have worked out a circular route that will connect several sectors of Dwarka with Janakpuri, Mayapuri, Naraina, Shadipur, Kirti Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Tilak nagar and Uttam Nagar. This bus route will also connect at least 10 Metro stations,” said a DTC officer.

DTC has started two Mudkrika or circular routes in the past two years.

While Yamuna Mudrika, which connects several colonies in east and north east Delhi with Kashmere Gate ISBT, got tremendous response,

Dwarka Circular service failed miserably due to poor ridership.

“Dwarka Circular Sewa was limited only to the sub-city. However, the West Delhi Mudrika service will also cut though several sectors of Dwarka,” an official said.
