SC Vats has won two consecutive Assembly elections in 1998 and 2003. Know your MLA.

Till about two years ago, Vats had his own private clinic. He practises traditional system of medicine. He was also chairman of All India Congress Committee’s Doctor’s Cell. “As chairman, I got an opportunity to travel across the country — from Zanskar in Ladakh to Bhopal.”.

Education: Vats did his Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (a traditional system which integrates unani and ayurvedic medicine) from the then Gandhi Ajmal Khan Medical College (now AU Tibbia College) in Delhi.

Political Career: Entered politics in 1970s. Has won two consecutive Assembly elections in 1998 and 2003. He won the best legislator award this year.

Family: Wife Bimla is a homemaker. They have two sons. Vats calls himself a philanthropist. “I make it a point to visit Belur Math in Kolkata every year. I am a deeply religious person and pray every morning,” he said.

Cars: The Vats have a Maruti DZire and a Toyota Innova.
