The Congress on Saturday took a swipe at Union minister Smriti Irani while sharing a video of her being cornered purportedly by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker over the high LPG cylinder prices.
In the video, a woman - who the Congress identified as a BJP worker - can be purportedly seen requesting Irani for relief from rising LPG prices. “I have three daughters… there has been a rise in inflation which also means an increase in LPG prices… It will a big relief for us if there is a drop in gas cylinder prices.”
Taking a dig at the Union minister, the Congress tweeted in Hindi: “BJP workers are also troubled by inflation. In Gujarat, a woman asked Smriti Irani to reduce inflation. Complained about the expensive gas cylinder and Smriti Irani kept smiling. When the cylinder was available in 400, then this Irani ji took to the streets. Today, she is silent.”
The BJP is yet to respond to the Congress's allegations.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, Irani is facing criticism from the Congress for targeting Rahul Gandhi over alleged shouting of the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad” during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress termed a video of the Yatra in which someone is purportedly heard shouting the slogan as “doctored”, and blamed the BJP's "dirty tricks department" for it.
Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed Irani for sharing an upside down photo of Gandhi performing Ma Narmada' aarti at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi on Friday shared a photograph of him performing Aarti and said, “Today, had the privilege of offering prayers at Lord Omkareshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, along with Narmada Aarti.”
Sharing the photo upside down, Union minister of Women and Child Development wrote, “Ab theek hai (Now it's OK.)”
Chaturvedi accused Irani of mocking Hindu rituals in an attempt to outdo Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to retain “Troll Tiara”.
Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal said in a tweet that the minister's “obsession and hate for Rahul Gandhi has reached ridiculous heights.”
