Priests at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh had placed a turban on Gandhi's head and draped a 'dupatta' (stole) with 'Om' written on it on his shoulders.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed Union minister Smriti Irani for sharing an upside down photo of Rahul Gandhi performing Ma Narmada' aarti at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi on Friday shared a photograph of him performing Aarti and said, “Today, had the privilege of offering prayers at Lord Omkareshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, along with Narmada Aarti.”

Priests at the famous Shiv temple had placed a turban on Gandhi's head and draped a 'dupatta' (stole) with 'Om' written on it on his shoulders, reported PTI. Sharing the photo upside down, Union minister of Women and Child Development wrote, “Ab theek hai (Now it's OK.)”

Chaturvedi accused Irani of mocking Hindu rituals in an attempt to outdo Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to retain “Troll Tiara”.

“Have to outdo the Assam CM since Troll Tiara is being snatched away, so in an attempt to troll, lets mock Hindu rituals to retain the title and the Tiara,” she tweeted, in an apparent reference to Sarma's remarks in which he compared the bearded look of Rahul Gandhi to that of late Iraqi politician Saddam Hussein.

Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal said in a tweet that the minister's “obsession and hate for Rahul Gandhi has reached ridiculous heights.”

Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Khandwa district of the state on Friday. The former Congress chief, his sister and party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her family members performed 'Ma Narmada' aarti at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. The Gandhi siblings held 'diyas' (lamps) while performing aarti along with the priests at Brahmapuri ghat on the banks of the Narmada river. Rahul Gandhi also offered a "chunari' to the river and then prayed at the famous Shiva temple, one of the 12 'jyotirlings' in the country, reported PTI.
