In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 10 candidates in the fray from Bangarapet constituency. Bangarapet was one of 80 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress's S.N.Narayanaswamy K.M won the election upstaging Janata Dal (Secular)'s M.Mallesh Babu by a margin of 21,571 votes.
The top three candidates split 98.7% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's S.N.Narayanaswamy K.M got a total of 70,871 votes, while Janata Dal (Secular)'s M.Mallesh Babu secured 49,300 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Venkatamuniyappa B.P. grabbed the third spot with 33,555 votes. The top three parties got 45.5%, 31.7% and 21.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's S.N.Narayanaswamy.K.M beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Em Narayanaswamy by 28,377 votes.
