Raghavendra Basavaraj Hitnal got a total of 98,783 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Amaresh Sanganna Karadi secured 72,432 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate K. M. Syed secured 4,185 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 55.1%, 40.4% and 2.3% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's K.Raghavendra Basavaraj Hitnal beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Karadi Sanganna Amarappa by 26,788 votes.
