In the 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, there were 3 candidates in the fray from Kakching constituency. Kakching was one of 28 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Yengkhom Surchandra Singh winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's M. Rameshwar Singh (RAMAY) by a margin of just 630 votes.
90.7% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Yengkhom Surchandra Singh got a total of 11,133 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's M. Rameshwar Singh (RAMAY) got 10,503 votes. Communist Party Of India's candidate Naorem Achouba grabbed 2,215 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 46.7%, 44.0% and 9.3% respectively.
