Apna Dal (S) president and Union minister of state Anupriya Patel attacked the opposition parties saying that they always remained silent on issues of backwards and Dalits whenever they were in power and it was only Prime Minister Narendra Modi who worked for their uplift.

Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public meeting at Khajuri in Varanasi on Saturday, Anupriya said she will remain indebted to the people of Kashi throughout her life.

“When the party was going through a crisis after the death of my father Dr Sonelal Patel, the people of Varanasi recognized me, gave me the courage to move on. They supported me. It was only because of the blessings of the people of Kashi that I could expand my party Apna Dal (S) across the state,” she said.

Anupriya was elected first time from Rohania assembly seat in Kashi in 2012 as Apna Dal candidate. Later, she was elected MP from Mirzapur in 2014.

Varanasi goes to polls in the last phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on March 7.
